Unleash Hope: Uniting Canines Against Cancer
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – West Springfield was the site of a fundraiser event in which people and their beloved dogs came together for a common cause.
The 5th annual ‘Canines Against Cancer Fundraiser’ benefited ‘Each Moment We’re Alive’, a local support group for women with cancer. It was founded by two-time breast cancer survivor Cynthia Sheridan Murphy in 2015.
Attendees walked a mile with their furry pets on the Nature Trail behind the Irish Cultural Center of Western New England, played games, and entered raffles. Sheridan Murphy tells 22News that this event will help make a significant impact on women’s cancer survivors.
“So many people just had no one to talk to, they’ve gone five years, six years where they don’t talk to anybody anymore. So that’s what we’re about, is helping them grow so that they can just go on with their lives and as we say, live each moment we’re alive,” said Sheridan Murphy.
All proceeds will help to keep educational and support programs free. The organization hopes to raise nearly $50,000. Friday night’s event was also in memory of those who lost their battle with cancer.
